The Heart of What We Do

Our weekly teams are the heart of what we do.

We go out on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the evening and on Sunday afternoons to hang out with our brothers and sisters living on the streets and in shelters.

We build relationships and trust through conversations, consistency, warm drinks in winter, and cool drinks in the summer. To be seen and be heard are core aspects of being fully human, but for the man or woman on the street this is often a luxury. To be talked at or ignored is their more common experience unfortunately.

The primary focus of these teams is to spend time with people and make room for true conversation. It’s life giving on both sides, and it’s also a great way to make new friends.

We ask that volunteers commit to joining one team that alternates going downtown every other week— one week on, one week off— usually about two times a month. Each team operates a little differently, but they mostly go downtown to the area around the Gateway Center, which is a shelter near the Atlanta city jail. We also have one team that goes out in Decatur/East Atlanta.

Let us know if you would like to join a team or visit with us to get a feel for what we do - we’d love to have you.
