Another incredible Health Day
Our Lazarus Health Day a few weeks ago was an amazing day for our community!
On Sunday, September 28, we gathered with our friends experiencing homelessness for a beautiful afternoon as 305 guests and 297 volunteers came together to celebrate good health and kinship with one another.
More than 200 of our guests received medical check-ups, foot care, dental and vision resources, and mental wellness care. Many others got showers, manicures, haircuts, registered to vote, SNAP benefit assistance, and housing information. Everyone enjoyed the music, food, games, books, art, prayer, and hygiene kits we had available.
Just as importantly, everyone felt seen and heard as the line between guests and volunteers was blurred. One volunteer shared an example of this as she was serving drinks to our guests. One guest was concerned if she had eaten, so he brought her a hot dog!
One gentleman said “this event came at just the right time” as he was moving the next day into an apartment. He got a shower and haircut and exclaimed, “Now I’m ready to go, and tomorrow will be a fresh start!” Another guests name Susanna was so excited to get a haircut and manicure that she needed some help getting to those areas. The smile on her face during her haircut said it all!
We want to thank all of our volunteers and partners who made this event possible. Your presence mattered as we turned the church parking lot into a hospitable space where our friends on the margins felt welcomed and loved. Special thanks to North Avenue Presbyterian Church for hosting us once again!
We also want to thank Sarah Harms Photography for capturing so many of the meaningful moments from the day. Click here to see all of the photos from this fantastic day with our community. We look forward to next time!
